Our Facilities - Moorcroft Equine Rehabilitation Centre

At the Centre we constantly strive to improve and update our facilities and believe that a thriving yard should always be doing so. All charity funds are put back into the Centre so that we can continue to give the horses the very best that we can.

Indoor School with Gallery

Our indoor school has an excellent surface, is very level and well maintained. It is not deep and is good to enhance soundness and develop good movement.

It is in a safe quiet area for horses to concentrate and work. It provides an excellent area for courses and demonstrations and has a spacious view gallery.

Outdoor Arena

This has a different surface, sand base with chopped up rubber tyres on top. A very even level surface for the horses to work.
21m x 42m.
Well maintained and in a quiet area.

Solarium

This was donated to us and funded by the Racing Foundation and we find it very valuable when we get horses with tired, sore tight backs that need a little help. The horses enjoy standing under the lamps and gain much healing from this. It is also useful for our vets who can administer treatments in this stock are safely.

Post & Rail Paddocks for Turnout

We are fortunate to have plenty of well maintained paddocks for turnout. All droppings are picked up daily ensuring a good control of the worm cycle and ensuring that the horses have the best nutritious grass to graze.

Horses are turned out in small groups and we ensure that all horses get on well with no bullying. We believe that a horse's time in the field should be settled at all time with no stress and it is valuable eating time of the perfect food for a healthy gut.

Fields are fertilised every couple of years to ensure the best nutrition, are rolled, harrowed and taken great care of. Turn out is not available all through the winter as we find horses are not always happy to be out in the fields then and the land may need resting and replenishing.

Top Yard

This is a herd environment for horses as they can touch each other over the stable partition and many horses like that and feel part of a herd whilst spending time in.

Lower Yard

The new build in 2022 was professionally provided by Olson Timber Buildings from Kent at a very generous cost to this charity and we are thrilled with the result as we have a much more robust and long-lasting stable block in order to keep these vulnerable horses safe for the winter whilst they are in for longer than they are in the summer months. Each box is very spacious.

Hay Gain

All hay is fed steamed to eliminate the risk of feeding any dust to horses as this can affect their health badly. All hay is fed from the floor where nature intended horses to eat from, and unless otherwise needed whilst in the stable, most horses can enjoy ad lib hay so that they can trickle feed and keep a healthy gut.
